TALLAGHT COMMUNITY ARTS PRESENTS ‘BOX STORIES’

Launch Event on Saturday 9 October, 2pm - 4pm, Tallaght Library

Who are we? Where are we? What do we want to say?

Tallaght Community Arts (TCA) are delighted to announce Box Stories, a project which enables people from all ages, genders, cultures and backgrounds from South County Dublin to participate in a creative exploration of the idea of expression and, ultimately, to celebrate the diversity of the South Dublin community.

Box Stories is a project which has invited participating groups around South County Dublin to ‘get up on their box’ and express what it is they want to say about the world and share this with others using the soapbox as a mode of communication.

The groups involved (schools, community centres, clubs and organisations) were sent a beautifully constructed wooden soapbox with the posted questions ‘ Who are we? Where are we? What do we want to say?’ as inspiration to explore what it is they wanted to say. The groups respond using the soapbox… by decorating it, painting it, drawing on it, putting sound in it or making a film for it, or perhaps creating a performance around the box… anything that catches their imagination.

The finished boxes will be displayed at a celebratory event in Tallaght Library on  Saturday October 9th 2010 to coincide with Open House. This gives everyone the opportunity to come together and to share their amazing soapbox with the public. All are welcome!
