December  19th & 20th

A Creative City

Radio Tallaght is a community art project with Tallaght Community Arts in partnership with Tallaght Radio Forum.   Radio Tallaght broadcasts live from RUA RED.

Radio Tallaght A Creative City will broadcast live on Saturday 19th December and  Sunday 20th December from 11 am to 6 pm.

A Creative City is an exploration of creativity in all its diverse and innovative forms.  Radio Tallaght’s December broadcast will highlight the idea that culture is an essential part of development both collective and individually.   For Tallaght to achieve its aspiration of becoming a model city it must place culture and community at the heart of its urban planning.  For cities, large or small, to be brilliant, they must use all their resources: economic, political, and most of all, cultural.  Interestingly South Dublin County Council are embarking on a new Corporate Plan for the Period 2010 –2014.  Culture will play a role in this development plan for the future of this emerging city.

A Creative City programming strands will include debate, drama, interviews, spoken word, music and plenty of Christmas cheer.  Radio Tallaght’s December broadcasts consist of an exciting and innovative selection of programmes such as;

FROM A DIFFERENT ANGLE presented by Izabela Barber .  From A Different Angle explores the importance of treasuring your own cultural heritage while absorbing the others. The programme will feature a Tallaght dweller Prof. Maciej Smolenski, the son of a general of the Polish Army Jozef Smolenski,  an opera singer and an important promoter of Polish culture throughout the Irish Polish Society in the 90s. Prof. Maciej Smolenski will talk about his life and passion of living.

PLATFORM ONE ARTS SHOW: hosted by Vivienne Kearns with artist Ger O’Grady and musician Aine Mulvey.

MICHAEL COLEMAN’S MUSICAL REMINDERS OF A CREATIVE CITY.  Michael’s musical journey will explore what a creative city needs in order to thrive and flourish.

THE LIFE OF MILEY   is an original radio play written by Laura Ryder and Andrew Moran. They take traditional fairy stories and weave through them the Radio Tallaght theme, keeping enough of the original plot to make the story instantly recognisable and changing enough of it to make you (and sometimes even them) laugh out loud. Accessible on all levels, the play brings the broadcast theme to the listener in a lighthearted and easy-to-understand way. The name “The Life of Miley” was penned by Andrew Moran, who started a blog when the recession really kicked in about enjoying life’s simple pleasures (mostly food) - being happy living the life of Miley (yes, Glenroe’s Miley) as opposed to the life of Reilly!”

MARIE NOLAN will bring us some Christmas Cheer with the Halleluia Gospel Choir.

In COOKING WITH JIMMY,  Chef and proprietor of the Interval Bistro Jimmy Dunne will insure that you get your Christmas feast just perfect.  Jimmy will guide us through creating the perfect Christmas meal making sure that the cook gets to relax and enjoy the day too.

Full details of Radio Tallaght’s December broadcast will be featured in next weeks The Echo.

The next Radio Tallaght will broadcasts take place on 99.1FM, from 11am to 6pm, on the following dates: December 19th  and 20th .
