“For each of the past 5 years, Artsbase, a program of Deonach, the Tallaght Probation Project, has celebrated the achievements of our students with an end-of-course exhibition.  This year we are very pleased to be working once more with Tallaght Community Arts and RuaRed.  TCA is the main cultural tenant in RuaRed, South Dublin County Council’s flagship arts centre and is hosting the Emerge exhibition there for Artsbase .

Artsbase is a program which was set up by Tallaght Probation Project to enable people with a recognised talent for the arts to develop their skills in an nurturing environment and assist them in progressing to further training or career opportunities in their area of choice. Several of our students have moved on to 3rd level, some are  working in the arts and three have returned on occasion to Artsbase as tutors. This year is no exception, as three of our students are moving on to courses in, respectively, photography, social studies and music performance and production.

We in Artsbase are very proud of the students and the work they’ve created this year, which has been a particularly creative one. The exhibition alone features more than 60 individual pieces, in many different areas, such as photography, painting,  drawing, mosaic and sculpture. The group has also produced a 16-track CD of songs and music, both covers and original work which was produced in conjunction with the music tutors, John Burke and Ben Custerson. Also, a broadsheet collection of their work created during the creative writing module, facilitated by the poet Yvonne Cullen, will be on display and available during the exhibition.

But the exhibition is only part of the story. On the night of the launch, the students will take to the floor of RedRua’s performance space and demonstrate their other skills in music and song, poetry and performance. We anticipate… something wonderful”.

Artsbase is funded by the Probation Service, Tallaght Drugs Task Force and supported by County Dublin VEC.
