As part of the build-up to the TCA/The Serious Road Trip (TSRT) Circus Summer School, TSRT will run introductory circus skills workshops from February 16-19.
Working through existing community groups, youth groups and schools in Fettercairn who are participating in the Circus Summer School in July 2009, young people from the area (aged 14-17 years) will learn juggling, manipulations, acrobatics, acrobalance and human pyramid skills with two TSRT professionals. This introductory workshop will also include a showcase of circus skills. The aim is to bring together the youth of all communities to share a moment under the big top, to learn in a playful environment to offer the opportunity for people to experience and share new emotions, beyond the boundaries of their communities.
TSRT believe passionately that the practice of a cultural activity, and the pleasure experienced in its practice, is complementary and paramount to the reconstruction and better understanding between the communities that they have so far encountered. For over 10 years now, TSRT have been using circus arts in country in situation of political and humanitarian crisis in places such as Romania, Albania, Bosnia, Kosovo, Afghanistan and Palestine. If each situation and country is different, they have always worked with the notion of understanding and solidarity, bringing rich and colorful activities to the places we visited.
